Snocross Star Blair Morgan Suffers Severe Injury
by Scott A. Sumner
I was very dismayed to hear of the horrific accident Blair Morgan suffered at the 2008 Montreal Supercross in late September. He crashed his motocross bike in practice Saturday afternoon. The fall fractured his T-4 and T-5 vertebrae, causing major spinal cord damage and paralysis. I am not sure of his medical outlook but feel the pain of the incident as many do. Last September I was able to attend the 2007 Montreal Supercross which Blair did not attend do his schedule. It was a spectacle event with some 40,000 people attending.
I first met Blair in 1996 when he raced at the Loch Lomond Ski Hill in Thunder Bay. That year he dominated the event which also featured a young junior racer named Tucker Hibbert.
Each year since then I have followed Blair’s progress at Duluth and interviewed him at a snowmobile show in Toronto several years ago. We did an indepth interview with Blair in his trailer with Ian Hayden there as well last year at Duluth. In my mind Blair Morgan is the most
accomplished snocross racer of all time and will probably be forever. His record in the sport is amazing including at the prestigious X games where he has won 5 times!
Blair has given so much pleasure to fans everywhere including me and should be proud of that accomplishment. It is my hope to see Blair at Duluth in 2 months and I am sure it would be the greatest thing that could happen for everyone who loves the sport.
