Snowmobilers are gearing up to Ride for Easter Seals Kids! 2008 willmark the 33rd Anniversary of Snowarama for Easter Seals Kids in Ontario.  This frosty fundraiser was started by Whipper Billy Watson in 1975 and has since raised over $15.5 million across Ontario for kids with physical disabilities.
Snowmobile Clubs and Snowmobilers across Northwestern Ontario and Northern Minnesota are once again being asked to come together to assist Easter Seals in raising much needed dollars for children, youth and young adults with physical disabilities.
Funds raised through Snowarama events will go towards direct financial assistance of vital communications and mobility equipment such as walkers, wheelchairs and communication devices and provide summer camping experiences or a recreational choice such as swimming lessons or therapeutic horse back riding in a child's home community.  Raising
a child with a physical disability can cost an additional $40,00.00 a year.  "Leg braces are $1,700 each and we have four kids that need them replaced every year", explained Kari Murphy. "as a single income family, there is no way we would be able to afford all of the equipment these kids need without Easter Seals." "I would say our family could not survive without the support of Easter Seals".   That's why your participation is so important to Easter Seals.
Snowarama continues to be a resounding success each year because it gets people to enjoy the winter weather while improving the lives of children with physical disabilities.  There are several ways you can get involved, even if you don't ride a machine.  You can pledge riders by visiting to make a secure on-line donation, or come out to the event in your community and meet some of the fantastic kids we work with.
Events will be taking place in several communities throughout Northwestern Ontario so please feel free to come out and join us. We will kick-off our Snowarama's with events being held in both Atikokan at the Sno Ho Chalet and in Sioux Lookout on January 26 and February
9th will see the Thunder Bay event happening at Grand Portage Lodge and Casino. There will also be events hosted in Dryden, February 23rd and Longlac, with date yet to be determined.
